Code generation and the Smart Tracker system
The Indigo side. Generate the codes for a deployment, all tagged into Indigo's proprietary Smart Tracker system, and hand the supplier a print-ready sheet. Each Visicooler gets two codes, one for the shipping crate and one for the cooler body, each pointing to its own scan.
How the codes work
Every code is unique and belongs to this deployment, but it is deliberately not
pre-assigned to an outlet or a sequence. Each cooler gets two codes,
each pointing to its own scan: one on the shipping crate (read at the
warehouse, Level 1) and a separate one on the cooler body (read at
the outlet, Level 2). Both belong to the same asset. Which city it was headed for is
set by the consignment plan; which outlet it ended up in is resolved in the field,
from the crew's GPS and photo. That is what lets the dashboard follow each cooler
through both checkpoints without anyone tracking which code went where.
Because the codes are generic, nothing is pinned at print time. Each scan is
placed when and where it happens:
Level 1, warehouse: the receiver scans the crate code as
stock arrives. The scan lands at that city's warehouse (from GPS) and counts
against the 50 planned for the city.
Level 2, outlet: the crew scans the cooler code and takes a
photo. GPS and the on-screen address are matched to the nearest outlet on
the route list, within about 100 metres.
If an outlet is ambiguous, the crew picks from a short dropdown of nearby
outlets.
Both events tally against the deployment, so each cooler lands in the right
city on the dashboard and its full journey is visible.
The cooler code can be issued against Coca-Cola's existing asset serial, so
the scan resolves to the identity already held in the asset register.
